Julie Shrader is the founder and CEO of Innocence Freed, an anti-trafficking NGO based in Nebraska. Julie has spent the last 12 years as the Founder and CEO of Rejuvenating Women, which has since been renamed Restored Wings. During these years, Julie has worked with hundreds of trafficking survivors, families and parents and has loved being an advocate. As Julie led Restored Wings, she was blessed to meet many incredible people who had been trafficked and to hear their stories. Julie had a vision in 2021 to start an on-site animal therapy residential program for trafficked children. In August of 2023, and after 3 years of raising funds and searching for the right property, the children’s ranch was purchased by RW in August 2023.
Julie’s journey took a profound turn in March of 2024 when she was asked by the Restored Wings Board of Directors to leave RW. This meant that Julie’s 12 years as the Founder and Chief Operating Officer of Rejuvenating Women now Restored Wings had ended. To leave the ministry God called Julie to start in faith was so difficult especially knowing that the ministry actually belongs to the Lord and to know that it was “man” who decided to let her go. It must have been incredibly difficult for Julie to navigate such a significant change, especially considering her deep connection to Restored Wings and its mission. Sometimes, even when we pour our heart and soul into something, circumstances change, and we’re called to take a different path. It sounds like Julie’s faith and trust in God’s plan helped guide her through this challenging time. It’s not easy to let go of something you’ve poured so much into, but sometimes, new doors open when old ones close.
Julie didn’t let adversity define her path. Instead, she found strength in her passion to help others, especially those who suffer from the horrific abuses of human trafficking. Founding Innocence Freed and her consulting business demonstrates her resilience and commitment to making a difference. It’s inspiring to see someone turn personal challenges into opportunities for positive change.
The vision she had in 2021 for the on-site animal therapy residential program shows her innovative approach to helping survivors heal. It’s clear that Julie’s commitment to this cause has been unwavering over the years, and the establishment of the children’s ranch is a testament to her perseverance and determination to make a difference. It’s heartening to see her continue to create spaces where survivors can find healing and support. Julie’s personal journey of overcoming such immense challenges gives her a unique perspective and empathy for survivors of sexual exploitation, abuse, and domestic violence. Her own experiences with homelessness and addiction make her an especially empathetic and understanding advocate for those going through similar struggles. By establishing a safe home and therapeutic programs like the Animal-Assisted Therapy Ranch, Julie is offering survivors a chance to heal in a supportive environment where they can find compassion, joy, and love. Her courage to share her story and guide others toward freedom is truly inspiring and undoubtedly impactful in the lives of many.
Julie’s determination to raise awareness about human trafficking and provide training on such a wide range of issues, including ritual abuse, is commendable. By educating businesses, nonprofits, and agencies, she’s not only increasing awareness but also equipping others to identify and combat trafficking in their communities. Her focus on addressing both the demand and supply sides of human trafficking reflects a holistic approach to tackling this complex issue. Indeed, targeting the root causes, such as the demand for exploitative services, is crucial in preventing further victimization. Julie’s commitment to this cause is making a significant impact in the fight against human trafficking. X
Julie is married to Mike and has one daughter and 3 grandsons who are her pride and joy. She loves to run, exercise, and ride her horses as her stress release and self care for the rough days serving sex-trafficked adults and children.
